1.  2021 NAAE Awards

To be recognized and certified as the Illinois winner and finalist to move on to national judging, you must compile and send application materials to Lori Copsy (lcopsy@illinoisffa.org) by April 15, 2021. The IAVAT Awards & Recognition committee will then evaluate all Illinois nominations to select state winners to be certified for consideration of the national award.

2. Food Science Team Problem Template

As indicated in the rules posted on ilaged.org, a team problem template (here) has been created to prepare for those planning to compete in the state Food Science CDE. Teams will make a copy of a similar set of Google Slides on the day of the contest to collaborate and submit their answers. If any teams have issues with the Google Slides format, please contact John Edgar (jedgar@illinoisffa.org) to coordinate an alternate process for the team problem collaboration and submission.

3. Job Interview, Ag Issues, and Ag Communications announcements

The state Job Interview contest will be conducted virtually (via Zoom) on May 11 & 12, 2021 and the state Ag Issues contest will be conducted virtually (via Zoom) on May 13, 2021. Updated rules may be found on ilaged.org. All materials must be submitted by May 6, 2021 electronically to Dr. Andrew Baker (AJ-Baker@wiu.edu).

The 2021 State Ag Communications contest has been cancelled.

4. Harbor Freight Tools for Schools

Every year, Harbor Freight Tools for Schools awards over $1 million in cash prizes to be shared among 18 outstanding U.S. public high school skilled trades teachers and their programs. Is there an excellent high school skilled trades teacher in your community? Skilled trades teachers get so little recognition but make such a big difference. Please take a moment to thank them and then encourage them to apply for the 2021 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence at hftforschoolsprize.org. Tell them they deserve to be recognized for their incredible work and, even during this difficult time, they deserve to be celebrated. Applications are due May 21, 2021.

5.  Roland Machinery Scholarship

The purpose of the Roland Machinery Scholarship is to offer financial assistance to a student pursuing a profession in the mechanical or technical trades (heavy machinery, welding, diesel engine mechanics etc.).

REQUIREMENTS

1 - Must be a graduate from a high school within the CFLL service area (Sangamon, Cass, Christian, Logan, Menard, Morgan, and Montgomery counties).

2 - Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a non-weighted 4.0 scale.

3 - Will be attending school as a full-time student in the coming fall at an accredited technical institution or public/private school .

4 - Be pursuing a degree or certificate in a mechanical or technical trade such as heavy machinery mechanic, welder, diesel engine mechanic or other related trade.

5 - Demonstrate financial need.
