  Virtual Horticulture Invitational CDE

The Horticulture Department at Joliet Junior College would like to extend an invitation to you and your students to compete in its annual Horticulture Career Development event.  The CDE event will be virtually this year and held on Thursday March 25th and Friday March 26th.   

The cost is $25.00 per team or $5.00 per student.  A team consists of 5 students.  Each school may enter up to three teams.  After you register on the IL AgEd website, submit payments directly to JJC.  Make checks payable to Joliet Junior College send payment to

Agriculture & Horticulture Department

Joliet, IL 60431    

You may register on the Event Registration area of the Illinois AgEd Website. 
The registration deadline is Monday March 22nd

The CDE will consist of the following Events: 

    1. Judge eight (8) classes: (25 points each)  
    2. Complete a written examination on general horticulture. This exam consists of 50 multiple choice and/or True/False questions; (100 points).
    3. Identify 50 plant materials which may include: (300 points)
    4. Each participant will complete one (a) floriculture and one (b) landscape practicum (100 points per practicum).

a)      Identifying and Controlling Plant Disorders – 

b)     Pruning Nursery Stock  

The college will again be offering scholarships to the top five individuals.  These scholarships are for students planning to attend Joliet Junior College to pursue a degree or a certificate in Horticulture.  This award is available to any high school senior who competes at this contest. Successful recipients will be notified my mail. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for your students to use their classroom knowledge.  It is also a great way for the students to see what educational opportunities the college has to offer in the area of Agriculture and Horticulture.  We look forward to your virtual participation.
