The Precision Agriculture Tenure-Track
Faculty develops, prepares, and delivers courses in both classroom and various
lab settings. Tenure-Track Faculty teach a full-time load as per the Parkland
Academic Employees (PAE) bargaining agreement, advise and mentor students,
collaborate with industry partners, and participate in governance of their
departments and the college. The Precision Agriculture Tenure-Track Faculty is
responsible for providing leadership of the college’s Precision Agriculture
program.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach courses in precision agriculture
technology and other related subjects areas.
- Provide instruction on applications of
geospatial technology, including but not limited to Global Navigation Satellite
Systems (GNSS), geographic information systems (GIS), automatic tractor
guidance systems, unmanned aerial systems, variable rate applications, and
precision mapping software.
- Make recommendations on precision agriculture software, hardware, and equipment to remain current with industry competencies through curriculum.
- Maintain close
relationship with the agriculture industry, maintain high visibility in
district 505 and throughout Illinois, and stay current with emerging
technologies to incorporate into curriculum.
- Be committed to managing
and implementing goals and objectives for current and future National Science
Foundation (NSF) grants.
- Lead the Midwest
Precision Agriculture Center to provide professional and educational
development opportunities for industry professionals and secondary teachers.
- Create and utilize
adequate assessment techniques that permit the measurement of course
competencies and learning objectives as outlined in Course Information Forms
(CIF).
- Prepare and utilize a
course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by
the college and the department.
- Maintain current
knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize a variety of
instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
- Provide timely feedback
to students and follow college and department procedures and deadlines for
posting of grades and required reporting.
- Demonstrate a positive
and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college
administration, and the community.
- Attend required college
and departmental meetings and participate in professional development
activities, including seeking to learn new knowledge and skills in the
Precision Agriculture technology industry.
- Represent the Agriculture
program at external recruiting events held on and off campus (such as FFA,
recruiting in local high schools).
- Support the Agriculture
program by advising student organizations and leading contest teams as needed.
- Advise and mentor
students.
- Maintain regular office hours
to ensure availability for student consultation and provides assistance to
students in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as
assigned by the department chair.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in
Precision Agriculture OR Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture with (2) years
related industry experience in Precision Agriculture
- Applicant must pass a
criminal background check with finger printing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in
Agriculture with 18 hours coursework in Agronomy, Crops Sciences, and/or Soil
Science
- Community college
teaching experience
- Industry experience in
Precision Agriculture
- Experience using online
learning systems
- Experience with
curriculum development
