Macomb High School, located in Section 11, is seeking a Full Time Agriculture Education Instructor/FFA Advisor for the 2020-2021 school year. This individual will be a part of a 2-teacher program with current instructor Wyatt McGrew.

Re-established in 2015, the Macomb High School Agriculture Program has been extremely successful the past four years. Most notably, the program has had its 1st American Star Finalist candidate in 2019, 3 American FFA Degree Recipients, 3 State Proficiency Winners, 3 State Star Finalists, 10 State FFA Degree Recipients and has had a multitude of students experience success in and out of the classroom. The program is an Affiliated Program of the National FFA Organization.

A key to the success of the program has been the outstanding support within the Macomb Community. The program has an established FFA Alumni organization, the Macomb FFA Alumni Association. This group supports the students by assisting in contest preparation, event planning and most notably, providing scholarships to students. In 2018-2019, the Macomb FFA Alumni provided over $7,000 to students attending leadership conferences/conventions, and over $18,000 to graduating seniors pursuing military or continued education.

Beginning 2020-2021, the program will be expanding to offer an increased list of Agricultural Sciences, Agricultural Business and Agricultural Mechanics courses. Planned course offerings for the 2020-2021 course year include: Introduction to Agriculture, BSAA (Plant & Animal), Ag Business Management, Horticulture, Veterinary Science, Natural Resources, Basic Agriculture Mechanics, Agriculture Mechanics & Technology, Agriculture Construction and Agriculture Machinery Service. The program is also investigating the potential to add 8th grade agriculture in the future. The program is home to a 30’x60’ greenhouse built in 2017, will have a full mechanics shop, a 5-acre land lab/test plot, laptop computers, drones and most importantly, full building/administrative & community support. To update equipment/educational support materials, the program utilizes CTE funding, district financial support and other grants available to the MHS Agriculture Program.

Specific qualifications for the position include: State of Illinois Professional Educator License with agriculture related endorsements. Additional math and/or science endorsements are helpful but not required to obtain the position. Salary will be based on the district’s 2021 salary schedule. In 2019-20 and prior to, the district offered an extended contract, participated in the 3-circle grant and offered an additional stipend for FFA Activities.

Interested candidates should please send a letter of interest, district application, transcript, credentials and resume to: Macomb Community Unit School District #185, Attn: Velvet Taflinger, Human Resources, 323 W. Washington St., Macomb, IL 61455. Employment applications can be downloaded at: www.macomb185.org/jobs.aspx.
