Joliet Junior College Announces (GAST) Agriculture Education Internship for 2020

Joliet Junior College Agriculture Department will again offer a 1 credit hour PAID internship for high school juniors and seniors with a sincere interest in exploring a career teaching agriculture.  Because of uncertainty of state funding for this year, a limited number of internships will be offered.  Be sure to be prompt in expressing interest in the 2020 GAST Internship program.  The internship will allow students to work with you in performing various classroom, FFA and related activities and duties.  The Agriculture Education Intern will be compensated by this grant at the rate of $8/hour for up to 80 hours of internship experience between January 2 2020 and May 1, 2020.

TEACHERS: Please e-mail Jeff Landers (jlanders@jjc.edu) to request a “Memorandum of Understanding” to nominate your student for the GAST Internship.  By nominating this student, you are verifying that this individual has expressed  a sincere interest in exploring Agricultural Education as a career.  After receiving the memorandum of understanding you will need to return the form by e-mail to Jeff Landers, jlanders@jjc.edu

DEADLINE: Please submit your students MOU no later than 12/13 for first consideration.
Students outside District 2 will be considered after 12/13 on a first come, first served basis until funds are no longer available.

Please share the following information with your student intern.

AGRICULTURE STUDENTS: To participate in this internship and receive compensation, you must be enrolled in AGRI 299 – Agriculture Education Internship which is a one credit class at Joliet Junior College during the Spring 2020 semester.  The tuition and Fees for this class are $148.00 which you must pay to receive credit and compensation.  We will enroll you in the class in January.  To be enrolled in the class, you must be a student at Joliet Junior College (only requires completed application).  To complete JJC’s free on-line application go to:  https://legacy.jjc.edu/admissions/pages/apply.aspx  and be sure to enter the curriculum MAJOR “Agriculture Education” under the Associate of Arts Degree menu.  Once enrolled, you will need to mail payment to Jeff Landers at Joliet Junior College.  Failure to complete the enrollment process described above will result in NO CREDIT and NO COMPENSATION at the completion of the internship.  Questions or problems regarding the enrollment process should be directed to Jeff Landers, (815) 280-2646 or jlanders@jjc.edu  Once the enrollment process is complete an orientation email and all needed paperwork will be sent to the student and instructor
