Du Quoin High School, located in Section 24, is seeking a full time agriculture/industrial arts teacher for the 2022-2023 school year, as Mr. Bob Huntley will retire after a successful teacher career of 34 years. Courses taught will be determined by the strengths of the hired candidate and the high school needs. This agriculture program is a two teacher program, therefore the newly hired will work with Mrs. Ann Piotrowski.
Facilities include two large classrooms, computer lab and chromebook cart, lots of storage, a mechanics shop and woodworking shop. It also has a small greenhouse and six raised beds. Shop facilities include 5 welding booths, SawStop table saw, industrial woodworking tools, dust collection and ventilation systems. The facility was built in 2010 and is housed separately from the high school.
Within the program there are currently 115 students taking an agriculture education course including 61 FFA members. Current courses offered, but are able to be adapted due to strengths of the hired individual, include Basic Agricultural Mechanics, Advanced Agricultural Mechanics and Agricultural Construction. Other courses taught include Agriculture Business, Agriculture Science, Introduction to Agriculture, Plant Science and Animal Science.
