Hi Ag Teachers & FFA Advisors: (sent to ag teachers and FFA section presidents/state officers)
We are pleased to bring back a popular competitive grant opportunity that encourages rural FFA chapters to visit with urban FFA chapters, and urban FFA chapters to visit with rural FFA chapters. As a pilot year in offering these grants and understanding the short notice, our hope is that we can announce 2020-21 grants in late summer to allow for proper planning.
Ten or more grants of a maximum of $1200 per FFA chapter will be awarded. The attached excel grant application has tabs at the bottom to complete, print, and return postmarked in US mail by February 29, 2020. Allowable expenses are: ag teacher substitute teacher pay, vehicle rental/mileage, and lodging.
The purpose of this grant program is to provide opportunities for FFA members to learn the similarities, differences, and diversity that exist among urban and rural agricultural education programs. School tours, networking and group discussions, observing classes, eating together, and agribusiness tours are a few suggested activities.
National and Illinois FFA categorize urban schools where the city population in which the school resides is 20,000 or more residents. The below list of 42 urban schools is provided as guidance as all school exchanges will be considered including schools in neighboring states.
