Illinois FFA Board Updates
-
The board approved the General Rules & Proposed Changes for National Competitions - click here to view the updated guidelines to be added to the General Rules.
-
The FFA Board approved the Selection Committee student judging process proposal. The proposal can be found here.
-
The FFA Board approved (due to the number of entries and diversity of enterprises) splitting the Food Service Proficiency Award area into Food Service Placement and Food Service Entrepreneurship Award areas, making them two separate categories.
-
The FFA Board recommend to the SAE Committee: develop a proposal for a Supervised Occupational Experiences award program recognition with the understanding that they will use the 6 current CTE categories:
-
Arts and Communications – Entrepreneurship/Placement,
-
Finance and Business – Entrepreneurship/Placement,
-
Health Science and Technology – Entrepreneurship/Placement,
-
Human and Public Services - Entrepreneurship/Placement,
-
Information Technology - Entrepreneurship/Placement,
-
Manufacturing, Engineering and Trades - Entrepreneurship/Placement
-
Example descriptions have been developed for each area click here. Please note these descriptions have not been approved, simply sharing them with you to get an idea of what the SAE Committee is proposing for the FFA Board to review and approve.
-
For each area plaques would only be awarded at the state level.
-
Supervised Occupational Experiences (SOEs) are in their own category, they are not Proficiency awards, even though they would be housed in AET and could be evaluated and the interview process conducted at the same time, they are their own award program.
-
Supervised Occupational Experiences (SOEs) will not be able to count for the qualifications to earn the State FFA Degree.
-
The FFA board and the SAE committee are very curious to see what the number of entries will be over the next three to five years; both committees will review and evaluate this award program to determine its viability.
-
This will be voted on by the FFA Board at the August meeting and if approved will go into effect for the 2022 - 2023 school year.
-
The FFA Board approved the Recommendations from the State Degree Sub-Committee and SAE Committee which would be taken to the 2023 State Convention to vote - put into place during the 23-24 year -Minutes from last SAE Committee
-
This is clarification of the Illinois Association FFA Constitutional language for the State FFA Degree qualifications, the FFA board and Illinois FFA Center currently follows this interpretation, but this adding clarifying language to help eliminate confusion. It is our intent to continue using this interpretation:
-
Article VI Degrees and Privileges of Active Membership
-
Section E. State FFA Degree
-

-
The FFA Board approved making the intent for American FFA Degree for Illinois FFA members will now be mandatory and due on January 6 every year. There is no penalty if a student completes the intent and does not complete an application. Having the intent mandatory prior to the application being submitted allows the FFA Center to put the applicants into the same groups to have their applications, as well as interviews. The intent includes the following questions:

7. Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute
The Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute (ILLI) is now a combined effort from IPPA, the Illinois Beef Association (IBA) and Midwest Dairy (MWD). ILLI provides an opportunity for young men and women to become actively involved in the livestock industry and all of agriculture. This program is sponsored by the three previously mentioned organizations and is administered by their respective staff.
ILLI is a 4 day trip that focuses on leadership, citizenship, and communication skills through hands-on experiences. It is hosted in a different location each year. Youth will learn about pork, beef and dairy production, research, consumer information and issues that affect the livestock industry today.
ILLI participants must be 16-20 years old by the time of the trip. ILLI participants need not be pork/beef/dairy producers or from pork/beef/dairy producing families, but must exhibit a sincere interest in the livestock industry and agriculture.
A maximum of 30 students will be accepted. Registration is based first on age, then on the quality of response to the prompt listed on the registration form. Notifications will be made within one week of the application deadline. If chosen, there is a $150 registration fee to attend the trip, with all other trip expenses are covered by ILLI.
Please contact lana@ilpork.com or 217-529-3100 with any questions.
The 2022 trip will take place from June 20 - June 23, 2022, to Lexington, KY.
