Onsite registration/check-in will open at 8am on University Farms with workshops to follow. Lunch will be served at 12:15 and we should be wrapped up by 1pm.
This event will provide your students with the opportunity to explore the various fields of the agricultural industry and their careers. We will be featuring workshops across University Farms as well as on campus that cover topics such as Wildlife Monitoring, Agronomy, Agriculture Education, and more!
Students get to choose which track of workshops they would like to attend:
Workshop Descriptions:
Track 1:
- SNP: Representatives from Sydenstricker Nobbe Partners will be in attendance to demonstrate how the John Deere sprayer and planter work as well as to discuss careers within John Deere and the necessary steps to get there!
- Agronomy: Learn about the world of agriculture production at the “Agronomy Workshop”! Here, students will learn about agriculture production across the United States and explore corresponding career areas! Students will learn about career areas ranging from agronomy and agribusiness to research and discovery in agriculture production!
- Fermentation Science: What do cheese, chocolate, and soy sauce all have in common? They all go through a process of fermentation as part of their production. If you want to learn how we use microbes to create delicious and nutritious properties in foods and beverages, join us at the Fermentation Science Institute! You'll be able to participate in a sensory test of cheese, learn about our program, and check out our facilities.
Track 2:
- Ag Education: Meet current agriculture education students at SIU and learn what it takes to be an Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor.
- Wildlife Monitoring Techniques: Students will see how cameras can be used to document wildlife use of habitat or to look out for big bucks!
- Animal Science - Equine: Participants will have the opportunity to paint the skeleton on a horse and see form to function. If time allows, we will discuss vitals and have students practice.
If you would like to stay after lunch for a University Farms tour or meet with some of our current ag students (Agbassadors) to talk about our agriculture programs, feel free to reach out! We would be happy to arrange that for you.
More details are available on the registration page. Registrants will receive an email with further details on Wednesday, October 5th! We hope to see you on campus soon!
