1.   2023 Illinois Pork Internship Applications Are NOW OPEN

The Illinois Pork Producers Association State Ambassador Intern serves as a representative of the association and the pork industry. The chosen individual will hold the title of State Ambassador for a full year and will work from the Springfield office during the summer of their term (May - August).

Main duties of the intern include managing the birthing center during the 2023 Illinois State Fair (August 10-20), attending Summer Ag Institutes for teachers to present about pork, attend the annual youth leadership summer trip, and various other events throughout the summer. The internship is education and communication focused.

The 2023 intern will be paid a 3-month stipend, totaling $5,500, plus all traveling expenses. Upon completion of the internship, they will also earn a $2,500 scholarship paid directly to the school. Start date will depend on the student's school schedule, and end date will be after the conclusion of the 2023 IL State Fair.

Qualifications:

• Must be an Illinois resident between the ages of 18 and 23 (Must be age 18 by Jan 1, 2023. Undergraduate and graduate students may apply. Note that payment is only provided via scholarship, directly to the institution.)

• Must have a strong background in animal husbandry.

• Must exhibit strong communication, organization and leadership skills

• Must exhibit a genuine interest in the Illinois pork industry and be able to speak on behalf of it

• Recommended that he/she has attended Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute (Previously IPLI. Will get to attend on behalf of their internship)

• Must be a member (or become a member) of the Illinois Pork Producers Association

• Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to out-of-state training and functions

• May only serve one year

2. Illinois FFA Board Updates from October 17, 2022, Meeting

Newly Revised Advisor’s Guide - now I am not saying there will be a quiz, but if your Section Chairs quiz you at the winter meeting, be prepared!!  In all seriousness, please take some time to review and familiarize yourself with the revised Advisor’s Guide, we had FFA board members put a lot of hours into this document per your request.  

Corrective Action Form - Illinois FFA has put into place a corrective action form to be used if an incident were to take place a state leadership event, BUILD Conference, Ground Zero, State FFA Convention, Camp, etc.  It is our hope that we never have to use this form, but if an incident were to occur, please know we would use this form.  If you have any questions, please contact mbunselmeyer@illinoisffa.org

3. Virtual Parli-Pro Competition Sponsored By the Registered Parliamentarians of Illinois Unit

The Registered Parliamentarians of Illinois Unit are hosting a virtual workshop on Parli-Pro Competition on Saturday, October 29, 2022, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CT.  Please see this flyer on how to register and who to contact with any questions.  Registration ends on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

4. FFA Roster Administrator Approval Deadline November 1. 

The deadline for your Administrator to approve the chapter’s roster is November 1.  When you submitted your membership, an email was sent to your administrator at that time with an approval link.  If your administrator has not received that link, please email Tammy, tyard@illinoisffa.org with your administrator’s name and email address so she can send them the link.  Your roster will be reviewed and submitted to National FFA once the administrator has made their approval.  Contact Tammy with any FFA roster questions.  

5. Illinois FFA Alumni and Supporters Applications Extended to Friday, November 11, 2022.

Due to National FFA Convention, the Illinois FFA Alumni and Supporters has extended the WLC, Ground Zero, National FFA Alumni and Supporters Outstanding Chapter & Member Applications deadline to Friday, November 11, 2022.
