Virtual Ag Legislative "Day"
While we know that Ag Legislative Day will look different this year, we are excited to connect many of our amazing chapters with legislators via virtual meetings the week of March 22-26, 2021. If you are interested in scheduling a meeting with your chapter to connect with legislators, please submit the brief form here.
We are continuing to work with the Illinois Department of Agriculture to coordinate other aspects of Ag Legislative "Day" and will share those as they are finalized.

GROWMARK System Offering Pollinator Garden Program
Honey bees and other pollinators play an important role in the agricultural ecosystem. These same pollinators are under stress from a number of factors: pests, disease, lack of habitat, and more. The GROWMARK System would like to help 4-H clubs do their part to help sustain and increase honey bee populations.
This is the sixth year of the program, open to 4-H clubs, Ag in the Classroom groups, and FFA chapters in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Groups who previously participated in the program have been automatically re-enrolled.
Organizations are asked to locate a public place and secure permission to plant a pollinator garden prior to filling out an application. This could be in a park, near a school, along a well-traveled road, at the county fairgrounds, or any visible location. GROWMARK will provide enough seed to plant approximately a 700 square foot area, as well as educational signage to be placed around the garden.
“Nearly 200 youth organizations have been part of the program since 2016,” said Karen Jones, GROWMARK Youth and Young Producer Specialist. “Growing the number of pollinator gardens this year will help provide even more habitat for bees and other beneficial pollinator species.”

National Chapter Award (NCA) Judges Needed
Calling all interested Ag Teachers and friends - if you happen to be interested in volunteering to judge Round 1 or Round 2, please take time to serve a judge. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the National Chapter Award application process and what quality National Chapter Award applications look like. This is a great opportunity for all teachers and friends to see what amazing things are taking place through FFA Chapters around the state. All volunteers are welcome!
Please make sure that your Section is represented, take time to talk as a Section to ensure someone from your Section serves as a judge.
Click here if you are willing or interested in judging the National Chapter Award Applications. Round 1 judging will take place online, it will begin April 19, 2021 and is to be completed by April 23, 2021. Round 2 judging will also take place online and begins on April 28, 2021 and is to be completed by May 4, 2021.
Round 1 Judges will score all three activities in an area. (Instead of previous years of answering yes and no questions) Round 1 judging, this year judges will actually give scores to the area the are assigned to judge; for example Growing Leaders and are expected to score all three activities in that area for a set number of applications. The number of applications each judge will be asked to score will depend on both the number of judges we have and applications submitted.
After Round 1 judging is concluded, applications will be sorted again and then place into the appropriate list in AET to then be shared and scored with those who judge Round 2.
Both Round 1 and Round 2 scoring will be conducted via AET and the electronic scoring system.

State Awards Day Judges
State Proficiency Awards Day will take place virtually on Saturday, March 27, 2021. We are asking any and all interested teachers to sign up now for your preferred time of day and the areas that you would like to judge. All judging requests must be submitted by Wednesday, March 17, 2021. This will allow time for names and areas to be placed in the AET electronic scoring system. All assigned judges will be emailed score sheets and codes by Saturday, March 20, 2021. Click here to sign up as a 2021 Illinois FFA Proficiency State Awards Day judge.
