    TITLE: High School Agriculture/Science Teacher

    QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Illinois Professional Educator Licensure for this position

    DUTIES: High School Science and Agriculture course instructor                                        

    REPORTS TO: Jr/Sr High School Principal

    JOB GOAL: The Ag/Science Teacher will instruct courses for the JH and HS science & agriculture departments. 

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Potential courses to teach: physical science, biology, earth science, introductory agriculture courses

    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.

    • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of the business community.

    • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

    • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

    • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

    • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

    • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

    • Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

    • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Contractual Agreement and Board Policy.

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel

    SIGNING BONUS: Signing bonus policy to be shared with offer

    COMPENSATION: Per the Ashton-Franklin Center CUSD #275 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Pecatonica High School, located in Section 1 in Winnebago County, has a full-time opening for an Agriculture Teacher and Co-FFA Advisor for the start of the 2024-2025 school year.  Applicants need to meet the State of Illinois certification to teach students in grades 6-12 with appropriate endorsements and credentials.  Successful candidate will Join  the current Ms. Adrianne Hall to be apart of the multi teacher program.


    This agriculture program boasts a variety of agricultural courses and an active FFA chapter.  Current facilities include an agriculture classroom, greenhouse, orchard, garden, bees and a cold frame greenhouse. Possible courses to be taught will be based on candidates strength.


    Salary and benefits are determined based on experience & education per the collective bargaining agreement. The position includes a stipend for the FFA Advisor position and the district has been a 3-Circles Grant recipient in the past.

    Prairie Central  (District 2)  - Ag Mechanics/Ind. Tech Teacher
    Status: Open

    Prairie Central High School, located in Section 9, is seeking a full- time Industrial Technology/Agriculture Education teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Courses to be taught could include: Orientation to Industrial Technology, CAD, Construction Tools, Advanced Woods, Metals, Geometry in Construction, and Home Maintenance

    Qualifications:

    Candidates must: be licensed in the state of Illinois to teach Industrial Technology or Agriculture; have the ability to work well with administration, staff, students and parents; be a positive influence on students and staff; and have strong organizational skills. 

    Salary/Benefits:

    Competitive, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Prairie Central will be negotiating a new contract for next school year. The state minimum teacher salary for FY25 is $41,188. Actual salary will depend on negotiated wages taking into consideration experience and education. A sign-on bonus is available. 
    This position may include extended contract days with an option to utilize the Three Circle Grant.

    Prairie Central is in the midst of constructing an addition on its Ag/IT wing, providing additional support and opportunities for students and staff.

    Decatur Eisenhower  (District 4)  - Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor

    Immediate Vacancy- Decatur Eisenhower Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor

     

    The Dwayne O. Andreas Ag Academy (www.itstartswithag.com) seeks an Agriculture Teacher/FFA Advisor to join the current Andreas Ag Academy staff comprised of Becca Merrill, Delia Jackson, Scott Davidson, and Clayton Thomas. The successful applicant will take up teaching duties at Eisenhower High School in August 2023. This new position will join an agriculture teaching team managing three sites – one teacher at each high school, and three at the new FFA Agriculture Education Center; this team works cooperatively to advise two Andreas Academy FFA Chapters. Students from Eisenhower and MacArthur High Schools jointly operate horticulture and livestock activities. 

     

    For the 2023-2024 academic year, the Andreas Academy will transition most instruction to the $11 million FFA Agriculture Education Center. The facility is under construction and slated for completion in Spring 2023. This facility and adjoining production acreage will house Andreas Academy courses and serve as a host site for regional and state chapters to meet for special events. Responsibilities for this posted include teaching Introduction to Agriculture and Ag Biology. These are our most pivotal courses for new Academy students before transitioning to the new center. The Academy is now offering17 separate courses for older students, with several thematic pathways available in Power and Structural Systems, Animal Science, Plant Science, Natural Resources, Agribusiness and Leadership, and Food Science. 

     

    Created through partnership with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation – www.thehowardgbuffettfoundation.org – the Andreas Academy has grown to 465 students in its fifth year of operation. Its objective is to engage non-traditional students in exploring careers in Agriculture. 100% of the students are FFA members, with a focus on encouraging creative SAE immersions. More than 80 area businesses, such as Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), media outlets, family farms and community partners operate as an advisory panel in support of the program. The Academy continues to strengthen ties with the four major universities in Illinois that provide agriculture education to create strategic connections with other collegiate agricultural programs.

     

    An important component of Andreas Academy activities is managing a 15-acre Living Science Farm (www.facebook.com/LivingScienceFarm) to host instructional enrichment activities for animal science, agriculture test and production plots, student-run entrepreneurship, and related hands-on learning experiences.

    The successful applicant may have a special interest in one or more focus areas but must demonstrate proficiency in facilitating classwork for each pathway. Instructors utilize both CASE curriculum and other online-focused resources to deliver content. The Academy covers costs for CASE training and other relevant professional development opportunities.     Charleston High School  (District 4)  - 3rd Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor
    Status: Open

    Charleston High School, located in Section 20, is seeking a full-time agriculture education or Industrial Tech teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The newly hired teacher will work with current agriculture teachers Emmalyn Walk, Ben Oakley and the other CTE teachers.

    The Charleston High School Ag Ed program is a three-circle program. Currently there are 300+ students enrolled in Ag Ed and Ind. Tech classes. The Charleston CUSD #1 administration, board of education, alumni, and community are very supportive of these programs.

    Classes to be taught would be based upon the interest and strength of the successful candidate. Current courses offered are Introduction to Agriculture, Ag Science, Horticulture, Welding, Small Engines, Ag Mech & Tech, Adv. Ag Mech & Tech, Geometry & Construction, Production Tech, CAD, and Construction Trades.

    The Ag and Ind. tech program recently went under a major renovation in 2022 and has state-of-the-art facilities. The facilities include: Two classrooms, one shared office space, a wood shop, greenhouse, a mechanics/welding shop, a CNC Plasma Table, a CAD Lab, 1-1 computers, and considerable storage space.

    Paris High School, located in Edgar County in Section 18, is taking applications for a full-time agriculture instructor and FFA advisor for the 2024-25 academic year.  Current Illinois Professional Educator License with proper endorsements to teach a variety of Agriculture classes.     Central Breese  (District 5)  - Ag Teacher/ FFA Advisor

    Breese Central High School #71, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Agriculture Education Teacher and FFA Advisor for the 2024-25  school year. The newly hired individual will be serving as the second teacher and will be working with Mrs. Harley Painter. 


    Facilities include a classroom, shop and new greenhouse. Within the agriculture department there are currently 180 students taking an agriculture education course with 100% FFA membership. Current courses offered, but are able to be adapted due to strengths of the hired individual, include Intro to Agriculture Industry, Ag Business, Soil Science and Vet Science.

    Mater Dei High School, located in Section 22, is seeking a full time agriculture teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. Courses taught will be determined by the strengths of the hired candidate and the high school needs. Agriculture department facilities include a classroom as well as a wood shop. Within the second year of the program there are approximately 30 students taking an agriculture education course and there is an expectation for more students in 2024-2025.
