RE:     2019 Illinois FFA Leadership Camp

Date:   July 12, 2019

Welcome to the 2019 Illinois FFA Leadership Camp!  Congratulations on being selected by your chapter to attend this fantastic event.  With this responsibility, you are guaranteed a week of fun, excitement and great adventure. I am sure that the 2019 Illinois FFA Leadership Camp will be a week you will not soon forget!  With that being said, let’s get you all the information you need for camp.

When:  The 2019 Illinois FFA Leadership Camp will begin on Tuesday, July 23rd with registration from 9:00 AM—10:30 AM, and will end on Friday, July 26th at noon.

Where:  4-H Memorial Campgrounds, near Monticello.  PLEASE note the map enclosed. If you are coming in on I-72 please use the Market Street Exit 164.

NOTES TO PAY ATTENTION TO:

  • There are a lot of great activities which you will have the opportunity to participate in during camp. Throughout the week’s events there will be many activities that involve being physically active, encountering water and mud as well. Most days you will have the opportunity to change more than once, please pack accordingly. All clothing should be “school appropriate.” Appropriate shirts and shorts should be worn at all times (Cutoff shirts with open sides will not be allowed).
  • For safety reasons, we ask that all campers bring some sort of athletic shoes, which can get wet. Several of the camp activities involve running.Sandals or flip flops may lead to twisted and sprained ankles, so please be sure to have some sort of athletic shoes for these activities. More than one pair of shoes is highly recommended.
  • Cell phone usage is to be kept to a minimum.Cell phone usage will be discouraged until after 8 PM.If a camper is found using a phone before 8 PM, a staff member will confiscate the phone. Cellular service at camp is very poor anyway.
  • There will be a nurse on-site at camp, please bring your child’s medications (prescriptions and over the counter medications in a Ziploc bag labeled with their name and FFA Chapter. All medications should be in their original containers and a complete set of instructions should accompany these medications. Campers may keep rescue inhalers and epi pens on their person as necessary.
  • One evening of camp will involve a talent show. If you have a talent you would like to share with your fellow campers please bring whatever you need to perform your talent with you to camp. This includes instruments, music, etc.
  • Would you or your parents like to receive reminders or updates about camp? Enclosed in your packets is a sheet with information on how to subscribe to either text or email (or both) notifications which will be sent out via Remind. This might include reminders of what to bring, links to photos taken at camp, or other communications as needed. There is no cost to you (other than standard texting rates) and participation is optional, but strongly recommended.
  • Here are a few items we recommend you bring in order to make this year’s camp the BEST EVER:
    • Sleeping bag and pillow (bunk bed style in cabins)
    • Appropriate clothing (several changes)
    • Sunscreen & Insect repellant
    • Towels, washcloths, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, and any other toiletries – good hygiene is expected.Bring footwear appropriate for outdoor showers. Showers are separate from the cabins.
    • Snacks (remember, there are no refrigerators in cabins), vending machines are available at times during the camp experience. Campers should limit the sharing of snacks to campers in their cabins only.
    • Sports equipment (ball gloves, bats, football, softball, frisbee, etc.) as there will be some free time.
    • Flashlight
    • Fan
    • A GREAT attitude for the 2019 Leadership Camp Experience!

The Staff and I look forward to meeting all of you!

Sincerely,

Matthew T. Meyer, Director
