  Job Vacancy - Jefferson-Hamilton Counties Ag Literacy Coordinator - Mt. Vernon

The Hamilton County Farm Bureau is currently accepting applications for the position of Ag Literacy Coordinator for Hamilton and Jefferson County Farm Bureaus.  The position is part-time allowing up to 20 hours per week.  Salary is dependent upon experience and education.   Position offers working from Farm Bureau offices in Mt. Vernon and McLeansboro, and an at home option.

Responsibilities include:
-providing programming and lessons to grade school students in Hamilton and Jefferson Counties
-organizing fundraising efforts and coordinating volunteers
-conducting teacher workshops and institutes
-grant writing
-other duties related to Farm Bureau programming.

Qualified candidates will possess strong presentation skills, good verbal and written communication skills, good multitasking and excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.  Understanding and knowledge of agriculture required. Previous educational experience preferred.

Overview 
The Ag Literacy Coordinator will work with the Hamilton County Farm Bureau Manager and the Hamilton-Jefferson Ag Advisory Council on projects set forth in the plan of work for the year.  The Ag Literacy Coordinator will work with local school districts to deliver specific programming in agricultural literacy.

Supervision
The Ag Literacy Coordinator reports directly to the Hamilton County Farm Bureau Manager.  The County Farm Bureau Manager will seek input from the Hamilton-Jefferson Ag Advisory Council on matters of supervision & performance.  

Responsibilities
1.  Develop and conduct in-school and group educational programs

2. Prepare, assemble and evaluate lesson plans and packets

3. Organize and work with volunteers to make educational presentations

4. Conduct volunteer and county and/or district teacher workshops and institutes

5. Use a variety of methods to reach targeted audiences (field trips, demonstrations, presentations, media, newsletters, exhibits, contests, etc)

6. Complete duties as assigned by the Manager.

Required Qualifications 
• Has an understanding of agricultural concepts from agriculture background, educational preparation, or previous position experience. 
• Understands and has experience public education in Illinois. 
• Communicates well in writing and in presentations.
• Broad knowledge of agriculture, budget management and meeting and conference coordination experience.

Preferred Qualifications 
• Degree in education, public relations or related area.
• At least 2-4 years of teaching experiences at the elementary or middle school level
• Work experience in agriculture or related field. 
• In depth knowledge of agriculture.
