  TWO new teaching vacancies: Normal Community High School

Normal Community High School, located in Section 9, is seeking TWO Agriscience Education teachers for the upcoming school year. Normal Community is one of two high schools in McLean County Unit #5. Since opening full-time in 2014, the program has grown significantly. Normal Community has also consistently earned recognition at the State and National levels including being named a 2019 Model of Excellence National Finalist (Top 10 FFA Chapter in the Nation).


The McLean County Unit #5 Agriculture Program offers courses in three career pathways: Agricultural Science, Veterinary and Animal Science, and Agriculture Engineering and Technology. At Normal Community High School, over 300 students have requested to enroll in agriscience classes for the 2023-2024 school year. Normal Community is seeking candidates to specialize in the Agriculture Engineering and Technology and Agriculture Science Pathways. Roles and qualifications for these positions are as follows:


Agriculture Engineering & Technology Educator:

The successful candidate will primarily be teaching courses offered within the Agriculture Engineering and Technology pathway. Expected courses to be taught for the upcoming school year include: Agriculture Mechanics & Technology, Physical Science Applications in Agriculture, and Agriculture Business Management. These are subject to change based on scheduling and staffing needs.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsement in Agriculture Education or Career and Technical Education Educator License with Stipulations (ELS).

  • Certifications in CASE courses (APT and ABF) are encouraged, but not required in order to apply. 

    • Training for CASE courses will be provided by the school district.

Biology and Agricultural Science Educator:


The successful candidate will primarily be teaching courses offered within the Agriculture Science pathway. Expected courses to be taught for the upcoming school year include: Introduction to Agriculture, Biological Science Applications in Agriculture - Plant, and additional biological science courses in the science department. These are subject to change based on scheduling and staffing needs. This position is expected to work collaboratively with both the Agriculture and Science departments.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have an Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsements in Agriculture Education and Science. 

  • Certifications in CASE courses (AFNR, ASP, ASA) are encouraged, but not required in order to apply. 

    • Training for CASE courses will be provided by the school district.

These two positions would work alongside district agriculture department chair, Liz Harris, who has expanded our Veterinary and Animal Science pathway in recent years. Her expected courses include: Introduction to Agriculture, Dual Credit Animal Science (through Heartland Community College), Veterinary Science & Technology, Biological Science Applications in Agriculture - Animal. 


With these positions, McLean County Unit #5 will employ five educators teaching agriculture in the department between the two high schools who work collaboratively as one professional teaching and learning community. McLean County Unit #5 offers a competitive salary/benefits package including a 12-month extended contract through the Three Circles Grant.
