Vacancy

Sherrard Junior/Senior High School, located at Sherrard in southern Rock Island County, Section 3, has a full-time opening for second semester of the 2023-24 school year for a shared junior/senior high Agricultural Education teacher (though it should be noted that if a qualified candidate is not found, the position will be filled with a long-term substitute for 23-24 and a permanent hiring will occur for the 2024-25 school year). We currently have two full-time Ag Ed teachers at the high school and would like to expand to the junior high school.

Spanning 182 square miles, Sherrard School District serves the educational needs of Rock Island and Mercer Counties in the northwestern part of Illinois. Currently, the district consists of five schools, two elementary schools, one middle school, and a combined junior high and high school. The student body population is made up of 89% White, 6% Hispanic, 3% two or more races, 1% Asian, and 1% Black.

Sherrard High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school enrolling 454 students in grades 9–12. Sherrard Junior High School consists of two grades, seventh and eighth, and has an enrollment of 210 students.

In addition to a new 2400 square foot state of the art greenhouse, the Sherrard High School agriculture program has recently earned many distinguishing honors, including the State Champion Horse Judging team, State Runner-up in the Farm Bureau's "Harvest For all" competition (last year we donated just over 2.6 tons of produce), 1st place Section 3 Greenhand (1st year members) Vet Science team, The welding team placed 1st in the Blackhawk welding contest, the Ag Mechanics team won 1st at the Section FFA contest, and placed 5th in the State FFA contest, in addition to multiple other local and regional awards.

The courses to be taught will include a seventh grade and an eighth grade introductory class within the elective rotation, Ag Communications (introductory high school level ag course), and Ag Construction. The remaining courses will be developed based on the experiences and interests of the successful candidate.

Salary and Benefits

Salary (BS/BA + 0 = $41,200) and benefits per the collective bargaining agreement (currently in year three of a three year contract). The district currently offers a 12-month extended contract as the school district participates in the Three Circles FFA and SAE grant, which pays an additional base of $13,637.
