Happy foggy Thursday, Ag teachers!
It occurred to me about six years ago that we had a lot of contests and curriculum for animal-based food production, but we didn't have a curriculum or contest that directly related to growing plant-based food. Two years ago, after talking to colleagues and developing the idea, I've been able to put together the Food Production/Urban Agriculture CDE- and your students are invited!
I designed this to be something you could bring an entire class to- I want you to use this in the future as a summative course assessment. It focuses heavily on team-based challenges (student groups of four) and you can bring as many teams as you wish. Your teams need to come to the event ready to present a business plan-style presentation about a "scenario" farm they have the opportunity to start (think: Shark Tank). Everything else will be completed on-site.
--This is not an official FFA or IAVAT contest.
--Register through the Illinois AgEd event registration system.
--I'm still looking for assistance on the day of the contest and colleges for the career fair portion of the day. If you know someone who would be great for these, please have them contact me.
Date: May 8
Time: 8:45 am checkin, 9:00 am start
Location: Chicago Ag Science High School, 3857 W 111th St, Chicago, IL 60655
Details about the event can be found on the CDE webpage. If you have questions feel free to contact me. -- Lucas Allen Facilitating Coordination in Ag Education (FCAE) Phone: 815-530-2065 Cell: 815-530-2065 Email: lallen@ilaged.org Address: 2015 Manchester Road, Wheaton, IL 60187
