1.  Illinois FFA State Officer Team Update

The 2020 - 2021 Illinois FFA State Officer Team is working hard to provide resources, activities and events that can hopefully help in kicking off the school year.  

• FFA Creed Presentation - Coming soon on https://www.youtube.com/user/ILAgEd a presentation of the FFA Creed by the major State Officers, see each speaking style and inspire your Greenhands with the FFA Creed.  

• Opening Ceremonies - Coming soon FFA Opening Ceremonies for each Section featuring your Section President as the State FFA Sentinel on https://www.youtube.com/user/ILAgEd  

• STAR Conferences - Please see the dates for STAR Conferences below, the Section Officers will email the Section Officers directly with the links to the STAR conferences, as well as additional information we are gathering from each Section Officer.  The State Officer team has several goals in connecting both Section and State Officers to FFA members throughout the year via various social media platforms, as well as Zoom meet and greet sessions.

  • September 1, 2020 - District 5 Section Officers STAR Conference - 6 to 8 pm
  • September 2, 2020 - District 3 Section Officers STAR Conference - 6 to 8 pm

  • September 8, 2020 - District 1 Section Officers STAR Conference - 6 to 8 pm

• LTS Speeches - Coming soon on https://www.youtube.com/user/ILAgEd  each of the major State Officers Leadership Training School speeches.  

• Chapter Visits - The Major State Officers are also working on Chapter Visits which will include some pre recorded sessions, as well as include a sign up for meetings via Zoom for your members and classes to meet with the officers to do a follow up of the Chapter Visits presentations.  

• Goal Cards - By now hopefully nearly all of you have received your Convention Chapter Packets, included in those packets are the 2020-2021 Goal Cards, please hang on to those Goal Cards and have them ready to give to your members for the Chapter Visits presentations.  For those unable to meet with their students in person, the officers are designing an online goal card for members to complete in conjunction with their video and Zoom meeting Chapter Visits.  

• Boards to Meet Regularly - The FFA Board will be meeting monthly via conference call to continue to connect and communicate updates, this week the board is meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2020, as always please use the board members to communicate and connect any questions or concerns you may have.  The goal is this meeting coming up will be focusing on a survey to send out to FFA advisors in order to determine the best means to deliver services to our membership based on how your schools are meeting either all online or hybrid online and/or  in person formats for school this Fall.

Olivia Charles, West Carroll FFA - Mount Carroll, IL

Teacher(s): Don Mathey and Christina Polk

SAE: Breeding Rabbits

Student Quote: "I breed show quality Flemish Giant and Dwarf Hotot rabbits. During a typical year I usually have 20-30 litters and both show the babies, and sell them to other 4H and FFA members from several different states. I plan to use this $1000 to make up for the profit loss from not being able to sell or show my rabbits this year. The money that I would typically make during the year goes towards the purchase of new breeding stock, my feed costs, and new cages or cage repairs. 

I will be a senior this coming year, and I plan to continue with my project. In my future, I hope to pursue a career in the agricultural industry.

All IAVAT committees will be meeting prior to September 15, 2020. If you would like to join a committee and serve as an at-large member, please respond to Lisa Oellerich (lisaoellerich@scalesmound.net) with your committee of choice and she will pass your interest on to the committee chair to include you in future committee communication.
