  1.  FFA Board Updates - February 5, 20221 FFA Board Meeting - Minutes

National Chapter Award

  • Illinois FFA will follow the National FFA process and protocols judging the National Chapter awards process National FFA Updates on NCA

  • 2021 National Chapter Award will use the AET electronic scoring system to judge the National Chapter Awards.

  • We will still complete two rounds of judging, with Round 1 NCA scoring, divided into pools of applications.  In this process, judges will be able to see all 3 activities and will score all three activities within an area, such as Strengthening Agriculture - that judge will score all three of the activities within that area.  Judges in Round 1 can use the flags to note issues such as the events repeating or other issues. A percentage of applications with the highest scores will then advance to Round 2.

  • Round 2 judging will remain as it has been in the past, one judge will review Strengthening Agriculture activity 1 (only one activity) for all of the applications that advanced to Round 2.

Conduct of Chapter Meetings - age/grade eligibility

  • Motion to allow 7, 8, 9 and 10th grade students to participate in the 2021 Illinois FFA State Conduct of Chapter Meetings LDE adhering the National FFA rules.

Officers are allowed to travel and attend events in person.

  • Officers, local advisors and local school administrators - MUST review and sign this form/document,  the  Travel Allowance COVID - 19 Liability Addendum, for officers traveling to schools/events.

  • Travel reimbursement will be required for all events other than National FFA Week events.

  • Officers will be tracking the number of people they are in contact with for contact tracing purposes.

    • In an attempt to be flexible and allow time to accommodate students' varying schedules, Judges/teachers please block 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the day you are to interview participants.

    • Judges which only be teachers, pre-service teachers and some retired teachers are asked to sign up for the date that works best for them rather than the area they prefer to judge.

    • Please keep in mind that we will need nearly all FFA advisors in every District for District proficiency award judging.  So, please sign up!

    •  There will be three judges per area.

    • If you have a Star you will be asked to judge both a Star area and a proficiency area as well.

  • The 50 word limit on supportive evidence has been removed from the Advisor’s Guide.

2. Do you have the longest attendee banquet participant?

We are certain that you have community members, grandparents and/or friends of your FFA Chapters that have attended a great number of FFA banquets over the years.  We are researching people who have attended the most banquets in chapter's across Illinois.  Please fill out this form to help collect information on long standing banquet attendees. If you have any questions, please contact Emma Kuhns at treasurer@illinoisffa.org

Three $1000 WCFA Agent of Change Scholarshipsare offered to students who have attended at least one Women Changing the Face of Agriculture Conference, either at a past WCFA event or anyone completing and attaching a 2021 WCFA worksheet.  One scholarship is for a high school senior, one for a current college student, and one for a current graduate student.

The application can be found here

“Being a part of WCFA as a student and volunteer has allowed me to make connections I value tremendously. Along with receiving a scholarship, I am grateful to be a part of this industry surrounded by successful women who continue to support each other in all endeavors,” said Callie McClay, a 2020 scholarship recipient.

Previous scholarship winner Kylie Miller said, “Illinois Agri-Women events and scholarships set women up for success not only financially, but by creating a community of women who empower one another within the agriculture industry.”

The deadline for submission of the online application is March 31, 2021.  Find scholarship information and applications at www.womenchangingthefaceofagriculture.com or www.illinoisagriwomen.org

The Illinois Agri-Women (IAW) organization supports the agriculture industry, works for legislation to support and preserve family farms, communicates with other agriculture organizations, and strives to educate the public and promote agricultural awareness. The annual conference to be hosted at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois has been moved to 2022. However, WCFA will be utilizing an online curriculum this year. Visit here for more information.

5.  Spring Virtual Contest Updates

The IAVAT Board of Directors have been working with contest hosts to transition many traditional spring contests to a virtual format. Click here to view a summary of spring virtual contests, registration deadlines, date and time of events, etc. Most contest rules have also been updated on ilaged.org/CDE, though we are still working on final details with some contest hosts and superintendents for plans to transition the events to a virtual format. Rules will be uploaded to the website as soon as they are finalized.

A decision about summer contests will be made in conjunction with decisions about state convention in the coming months.
