2021 Ag Legislative Day Items
The Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Commodity Organizations, and the Illinois FFA still plan to contribute items and assemble baskets for the legislators this year. We are inviting FFA Chapters and/or FFA members to contribute items to the 2021 baskets. If you are interested in showing off either your SAE skills or skills gained in agriculture classes this is a great opportunity. It could be something that your student makes as an SAE or potentially items that your students make in agricultural mechanics classes. Please note that items to contribute should not be fragile or perishable. Any potential food items to be contributed would have to be made in a certified kitchen and approved in advance by Illinois FFA and IDOA ensuring safety and quality of products contributed. We have a potential sponsor offering funds to help cover the cost of making the items, as well as getting them shipped to the Illinois FFA Center.
Please click here to complete the form to let us know your interest in contributing. Information that we are gathering in the form includes:
-
Size of the item
-
Weight of the item
-
Approximate cost to make the item
-
How many your class or your student could make by mid-March, 2021?
All items must be in hand by March 22, 2021. Once we know how many items FFA chapters or students are interested in contributing, we can let you know what percentage of the costs we can help to offset. We would hope to try to fully cover costs or as little as 50% of the cost, again, we won’t know that until we actually know how many chapters or students are interested.
Please complete this form NO LATER than March 5, 2021.
2. Illinois Corn Marketing Boards Supports Your Local Chapter
The Illinois Corn Marketing Board is pledging donations to your local FFA chapter! Beginning in mid-March this program will again work to bring awareness of potential nutrient loss while supporting agriculture. When a farmer anonymously submits the results of his/her nitrate test strip online, they may select any Illinois FFA chapter to receive a $5 donation made by the ICMB.
You are welcome to get involved as much or as little as you like, but we wanted to make you aware of the opportunity to increase funding to your FFA chapter by encouraging IL Corn Growers Association members to submit these water tests and choose your FFA from the list. The offer is being mailed only to ICGA members. If there are farmers in your area that wish to become members, they can do that on the IL Corn website as well.
If you have questions about this program, please submit them to Megan Dwyer at mdwyer@ilcorn.org.
3. National Teacher Ambassadors for FFA 2021-2022 Application
We’re seeking teachers interested in helping to share National FFA educational resources and opportunities within their state while offering feedback and ideas. Becoming a National Teacher Ambassador for FFA provides opportunities for peer-to-peer discussions, presentations, and networking throughout the school year. Ambassadors attend a virtual, intensive training during the summer, deliver workshops on National FFA resources and opportunities, promote resources on social media and provide feedback to the National FFA Organization. Learn more about the program (including detailed responsibilities and expectations) and to complete the application soon! The deadline to apply is March 10, 2021.
4. The National FFA Organization is currently seeking candidates for the position of Chief Financial Officer

Student Privacy (SOPPA) Compliance Resources
Some inquiries have been fielded by Agricultural Education state staff concerning upcoming changes to student privacy laws (SOPPA). This email contains links to some helpful resources as each District works to ensure they are in compliance. To begin, the Learning Technology Center of Illinois has some helpful resources that provide a general overview of the upcoming changes and requirements. They are linked below. The LTC has also developed the Illinois Student Data Privacy Alliance, a free consortium that allows school districts to access management tools and resources for data privacy agreements. Many districts have already uploaded standing agreements to this database for commonly used venders. Schools can become members of the alliance for free and gain access to those agreements already established and shared by other schools. A template has been created by LTC (CLICK HERE) that districts can use as a model to draft agreements with service providers. Other than the standing agreements between venders and school districts, SOPPA also requires that school districts use reasonable security practices. LTC is working with districts to address those concerns. More information on this is found by clicking here. Please share this information with your district administrators if you have further questions.
